jaculus
The rendering engine for the 1.x series of ClickWiki is jaculus. It is designed to handle a wide range of markup (HTML, various wiki systems, markdown, etc) in a bidirectional manner and tag it all semantically so that it can be treated in an intelligent manner. See the manual for information regarding the ClickWiki model.
Note that the 1.0.x series started with the unnamed pre1.0 rendering engine. It is hard coded to ClickWiki markup, a derivative of Sycamore, a derivative of MoinMoin, a derivative of PikuPiku. Due to the stability of it and the amount of testing, 1.0.0 was released with it.
As of 2007.04.15, the engine is nearing completion, and will hopefully be included as the default rendering engine in the 1.1.0 release.
About Jaculus jaculus
Jaculus jaculus is better known as the desert jerboa, a small rodent from 4 to 40 cm long with feet a quarter of the length of the entire animal, including tail. They are reddish brown with gray underfur which is visible on their bellies. They are native to northern Africa from Morocco to Egypt and the Middle East to southern Iran. Their hind feet are very adapted to the changing and shifting sands under which they build their burrows. The bones are fused for strength and they have special hairs that allow them to avoid sinking into desert sand.
As animals that can walk safely and quickly on an ever changing surface, I decided to name the markup engine after them.
